WHAT IS FISP?
Facade Inspection & Safety Program (FISP) mandates that NYC owners of buildings greater than 6 stories must have ALL exterior walls and appurtenances periodically inspected by a licensed professional engineer or registered architect.
(Appurtenances include, but are not limited to, exterior fixtures, flagpoles, signs, parapets, railings, copings, guard rails, window frames [including hardware and lights], balcony enclosures, window guards, window air conditioners, flower boxes and any equipment attached to or protruding from the façade.)
The inspection determines the facades and appurtenances as either safe, unsafe, or safe with a repair and maintenance program (SWARMP) and whether, in the judgment of a Qualified Exterior Wall Inspector, they require remedial work.
A report based on the “critical examination” must then be filed with the New York City Department of Buildings (DOB) on a five year cycle.
HOW CAN STANDARD WATERPROOFING HELP?
